We fell to a narrow defeat tonight in a very entertaining U13 hurling match played in excellent conditions in the Bog Garden Rathkeale. We were missing some key players, Aidan Stokes being unavailable after picking up a hand injury in the last game, but on a better note we welcomed Aidan O’Shea back after his recent injury. We started brightly, picking off the 1st score and hurled well throughout the half, the score at the break was 2 points each. We had some trojan defending from the backs during the half keeping a very active Drom Broadford Forward line at bay.
In the 2nd half we conceded two early points from frees and a lucky goal to leave the scoreline 1.4 to 2 pts. We then did all the hurling, scoring 4 excellent points, all from play, with the inside forwards working extremely hard enabling our half forward line and center field room to pick off vital scores. Declan Walsh and Owen Dee were well on top during this period and Declan was extremely unlucky not to raise a green flag, drawing a superb save from the Drom Broadford Goalkeeper, only to be denied by the width of the post, having hit the upright as well in the 1st half. Drom Broadford got the last score from a free, despite our best efforts we couldn’t get the goal that our play deserved. Special credit to must go to all of the lads for a brave effort, but particularly to Darragh Giltenane and Andrew Walsh, both U11’s who filled in and hurled very well.
