Comhghairdeas mór lenar bhfoireann iománaíochta faoi 17 a bhuaigh craobhchomórtas an chontae (roinn 3)
Congratulations to our U17 hurling team who won the county championship (division 3) yesterday in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale by defeating St. Kierans on a scoreline of Croagh/Kilfinny Rathkeale 1-15 St. Kierans 0-10.
This was on the back of an extermely impressive complete hurling and team performance against a resilient Ballybrown side in the semi-final last Sunday 8th October. The boys showed all the skills they had by scoring an impressive 1-28 against a Ballybrown side who never gave up and kept coming back at them. They won the semi-final by 6 points, Croagh/Kilfinny Rathkeale 1-28 Ballybrown 6-7.
Yesterdays final was a repeat of a group stage match where St. Kierans inflicted a heafty 13 point defeat on the boys so they knew they would have to bring the semi-final performance plus more to overcome them in the Final.
The scene was set for the final, a bright sunny Saturday morning October 14th in Mick Neville Park against St. Kierans. The boys got off to a great start and from the throw in laid down a marker that they were not in the form for a repeat of the earlier group stage match. Some impressive team play and scoring gave us a 6 point half time lead, 0-11 to 0-05.
In the 2nd half St. Kierans threw everything they had at us but the boys continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over and were never in any real danger. They won the 2nd half scoring 1-4 against 0-5 for St. Kierans.
Final Score: Croagh/Kilfinny Rathkeale 1-15 St. Kierans 0-10
