Congratulations to the U13 hurlers of Croagh/Kilfinny Rathkeale who won the Division 3 Shield final today in Mick Neville Park by beating Belville Gaels 0-6 to 0-3.
This was a hard fought game from start to finish with two very evenly matched teams. Scores were not easy come by with both defences on top. We went in at half time level at 2 points each and should possibly have been ahead. Our defence was immense throughout putting their bodies on the line to prevent the dangerous Belville Gaels forwards from getting shots on target, our midfield and forwards worked hard to get possession and scores. We got 6 brilliant points and with defences on top free taking was going to be vital and our free taking in the 2nd half was very accurate which was the difference between the sides in the end.
Belville Gaels pushed us all the way and pressed hard to get a goal near the end which would have drawn or possibly won the game for them but we held firm and won some vital frees in defence near the end which relieved the pressure.
It was a first medal for many of this panel so well done to them all.
Joint Captains Shay Looney and Darragh Giltenane accepted the Shield and gave a great acceptance speech.
