Our Junior A hurlers had a fantastic 1 point win last night against Feenagh/Kilmeedy in the Wards Skip Hire sponsored West Junior A hurling Championship.

This was a knockout game in which the losers would be hanging up their boots for the year and the winners marching on to the West Semi final and County Quarter final.

This was a very evenly and fiercely contested game right from the throw in averaging a score every minute and a half and displayed all that was good about West Junior hurling.

Challenges were hard and fair and some excellent passages of play led to some super scores. Free taking we unerring from both sides and the scoreline at half time reflected how evenly matched both sides were with Feenagh/Kilmeedy leading by the slender margin of 1 point, 0-11 to 0-10.

Scorers in this half for us were James O'Brien 0-01, Tom McMahon 0-04, Mike O'Connell 0-02, Jack Lenihan 0-01, Brian Hannon 0-01 and Declan Mullane 0-01.

The second half continued the trend with both sides trading points with never more than 2 points separating the sides and being level on 6 occasions. A massive point from John Wall from between his own 45 and 65 yard line line lifted the crowd and his team mates and Croagh/Kilfinny were leading by 2 points with time up. Some very nervous moments in the 4 minutes of injury time lead to some brave defending and when the referee blew the final whistle there were scenes of joy but most of all relief.

This team deserved this win and now they march on to play Castletown/Ballyagran next weekend in the semi final. I'm sure our Manager Joe Hannon was delighted to hear this result as he is away on his honeymoon at the moment.
