Our Under-12 hurlers came out on top in the final of their division at the David Bourke Memorial Tournament in Na Piarsaigh.
The day got off to a fantastic start with a parade led by a bagpiper, who proudly led the enthusiastic young teams from Cushendall, Na Piarsaigh, Bishopstown and Thurles Sarsfields.
In our group games, the lads showed tremendous heart, spirit and determination, coming out on top in all three matches and earning their place in the final.
After the group games, everyone was treated to food and drinks in the Na Piarsaigh clubhouse, with a great atmosphere building ahead of the final.
The final was certainly not for the faint-hearted!
We went in at half-time 1-1 down after playing against a light breeze. However, the lads dug incredibly deep in the second half and showed great character when it mattered most.
Big scores from Tom Keating and Michael Nash helped keep us in the contest, before a memorable goal from Eoghlan FitzGerald with just five minutes remaining put us ahead when the game was truly in the melting pot.
From there, the lads showed tremendous composure and determination to see the game out and secure a fantastic victory.
Every player on the team played their part in this success, and they can all be extremely proud of their performance and achievement.
Captain Hugh Hanley accepted the cup on behalf of the team and spoke very well, thanking Na Piarsaigh for hosting the tournament and his teammates for their efforts on what was a fantastic day.
Unfortunately, Eoghlan missed the team photo after picking up an injury, while his teammate Thomas O'Shaughnessy also suffered an injury during the day. We wish both lads speedy recoveries and hope to see them back on the pitch very soon.
