The Club would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies to the Ahern family, Killea, on the very sad passing of Mike Ahern. May he rest in peace.
The Ahern family have been tremendous supporters of Croagh/Kilfinny GAA down through the years. Mike’s father, the late Ned Ahern, was a former player and Chairman of the Club, and his dedication and leadership left a lasting mark. That proud tradition of commitment to the club continued with Mike.
Mike played hurling with the club throughout the 1980s and into the early 1990s. A big, powerful presence in goals, he struck an imposing figure between the posts and more than a few forwards thought twice about entering the square when Mike was on duty. He was renowned for his massive puck-outs, and many still recall that, with a favourable breeze in Walls Field, Mike could on occasion drive the ball over the bar directly from a puck-out — a testament to the power and skill he possessed.
Mike passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 2nd, 2026, surrounded by his heartbroken family.
We extend our sincere sympathies to his mother Josie, his sisters Mary, Ann (O’Rourke), Teresa (Noonan) and Martina, and to their extended families and friends at this very difficult time.

Mike will be reposing at O'Grady's Funeral Home, Ballingarry Co. Limerick (V94TW13) this Thursday evening March 5th, from 5.30pm to 7pm. Arriving on Friday to St. John the Baptist Church, Croagh, Co. Limerick for 12 noon Requiem Mass. Burial afterwards in the local cemetery.
